The Batman movies were good, as were at least 2 of the Spidey and X-Men movies, the Iron Man movie, and the last couple of Bond movies. After that, the pickings among things I've seen get pretty slim. (But then, I don't see many movies and don't have much use for dramas, Oscar bait, horror movies, etc.)Jerry Raynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3860282.post-34642870551944688682009-07-29T09:33:01.717-05:002009-07-29T09:33:01.717-05:00Jeff, it's spelled "Michael." :-)
...Jeff, it's spelled "Michael." :-)

I _am_ a Falcons fan, to the extent that I'm a fan of any NFL team, and 1998 was pretty amazing. Crushing the hopes of the Vikings in the Metrodome almost makes up for the freakin' 1991 World Series in the Metrodome (with Hrbek pushing Gant off of first base and the ump calling Gant out, Lonnie Smith hesitating like an idiot as he rounded second, etc.).

Besides, the Vikings had Herschel Walker AND Fran Tarkenton, both players from U[sic]GA. I just can't support that. :-)

I didn't realize the Vikings had had Jeff George, though. I have a feeling it would've gone down just like his last year with the Jets.... fast start before he broke down in December. Now, if people were willing to give him a second chance, Micheal Vick would be an interesting QB at Minnesota (like Tavaris Jackson, but better, at least before he went to prison)

...and I'm not really a Falcons fan (more of a Dolphins fan), but yeah, sorry about 1998.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17276095568406325175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3860282.post-42376062362431539632009-07-17T09:04:30.713-05:002009-07-17T09:04:30.713-05:00Anonymous (if that's really your name ;-), I t...Anonymous (if that's really your name ;-), I think the question to be asking is "what defines Christian music?" Is it simply "music by Christians" or is it "music that's explicitly about 'Christian things'?"

I grew up listening to music (like Petra) that falls into the latter category, and I think there's still room for stuff like that that's directly aimed at the church crowd (though a lot of it tends to be kind of "youth groupy" and not very good). I do still enjoy going back to that stuff on my iPod, though I have little interest in current CCM stuff.

But as I've gotten older, I find myself drawn more to bands on the fringes. A little digging to find evidence of truth in the lyrics is fun (and a lot of the music tends to be better, honestly). It's not all "feel good boy/girl pap," and it's not all brooding. (But if you eliminate the brooding and the feel good music, what's really left?)

And I think it's a huge, ill-informed leap to conclude that bands like Over the Rhine are on the fringes because they "dislike the church and loathe authority."Jerry Raynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3860282.post-77151607544091052292009-07-15T19:55:04.337-05:002009-07-15T19:55:04.337-05:00Are these bands who are on the fringes singing abo...Are these bands who are on the fringes singing about a relationship with Christ, or just feel good boy/girl pap, or worse yet brooding, "I hate myself and the world" crap that bands like Nirvana were doing years ago?

These bands are on the fringes because they dislike the church and loathe authority.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3860282.post-9185941407148801062009-02-09T18:29:00.000-06:002009-02-09T18:29:00.000-06:0010 (OK, 13) favorites:Until the End of the WorldTh...10 (OK, 13) favorites:

Until the End of the World
The Fly
Kite
11 O'Clock Tick Tock
Spanish Eyes
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Jesus Christ
Out of Control
The Electric Co
Where the Streets Have No Name
All I Want Is You
Bad
40

Least favorites, either through overplay or just outright suckiness:

Babyface
Elvis Presley and America
Miami
The Playboy Mansion
All Because Of You
Shadows and Tall Trees
New York
Mysterious WaysUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01150205574237641249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3860282.post-21542182767371541692009-02-09T11:07:00.000-06:002009-02-09T11:07:00.000-06:00My U2 knowledge isn't nearly as broad as yours, bu...My U2 knowledge isn't nearly as broad as yours, but my list would go something like this:

Bad
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
40
Where the Streets Have No Name
Grace
All I Want Is You
Red Hill Mining Town
Walk On
With or Without You
I Will FollowMarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13273004735062318478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3860282.post-10941375672596521662008-10-30T21:11:00.000-05:002008-10-30T21:11:00.000-05:00I agree. I feel for the family, three sons with bright futures ahead of them. Other articles I've seen mention that there were three cars in the driveway, including an SUV and a Lexus. Why not sell them? The house was already sold, not foreclosed upon. They weren't homeless yet, and the fact the man was mentioning the suicide/ murder-suicide to others and no one gave him a dose of reality is distressing.
I've always despised GW and his administration, but I've never understood these types of murder-suicides where some ego apparently persists amongst the raging despair. His administration really screwed up, but deregulation's been around for years, and if people and banks didn't have a crackhead/drug dealer relationship when it came to credit, this wouldn't have happened.
If ANYBODY thinks about suicide, seek help, go to a hospital and admit yourself, call a hotline, talk to a psychiatrist. And read about impoverished people in other parts of the world for perspective: there is ALWAYS someone worse off than you who finds the will to survive. If they can, so can you, even if the US is in the crapper right now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3860282.post-32598868887630426402008-10-07T03:58:00.000-05:002008-10-07T03:58:00.000-05:00I'm glad that some people still have common sense ...I'm glad that some people still have common sense in this world. I completely agree with you atheistguy. Is time to show the true colors of the so called "American President" that we have had the last 8 years. They want the hard working American Citizen(Lower and Middle) to continue feeding them with a silver spoon. I hope congress doesn't approve this bailout and if they want a bailout, is going to go under the best term possible to help the tax payers. They want the hard working American to get in debt again and continue getting the rich, richer while the future of our kids is not secure. That's their remedy to the economy. Highway robbery at its best. Just ask John McCain how many houses he owns????? Exactly. They don't know. Greedy hypocrites. Ask them to show you their personal accounts? That's where the money is. For the last 8 years they have being taking our money out of our hands just so they can get richer but now they want to act like they know how to fix the problem but they don't explain why it got to where it is now. Ask John McCain about the fundamentals of the Economy? Great, Right. Yes McCain, the economy that you have on your pockets along with the hypocrites that have left this country with all of the money the economy had. My last hope is on the people in congress. I hope they do the right thing for our kids future sake.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3860282.post-29997898444830381602008-10-06T22:13:00.000-05:002008-10-06T22:13:00.000-05:00Actually I think CNN has done a good job to highli...Actually I think CNN has done a good job to highlight the problems of those experiencing financial turmoil in this period of economic crises, especially in times when the focus seems to be on rich Investment Bankers and Wall Street, or on Britney Spears or Hannah Montana. People are going to commit suicide whether or not it is reported by the media. We need to realize how our pampering of corporations and banks has caused this situation that has affected millions of Americans.

As for the original blogger, he himself seems like an opportunist, mentioning Christ and religion to further his own Christian propaganda.
